Fighting Fit: Wolverhampton man lands new job and charity bout following working with IPS

This autumn marks an exciting new chapter for Elliott, an IPS Employment Support client in Wolverhampton, who is celebrating both a career breakthrough and a charitable challenge.

Elliott is set to begin a new role as a Fitness Instructor, fulfilling a long-held passion for health and exercise in September 2025. At the same time, he is training for a Charity Boxing Match in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society, combining his love of sport with a desire to give something back.

With support from Vocational Specialist Louise Westwood, Elliott has successfully transitioned from his previous role supporting young people in care to a new career in sports and fitness. His journey has also included volunteering at the Dorothy Pattison Hospital gym, where he has supported others while gaining valuable experience and confidence.

Individuals Placement Support (IPS) is a service that forms part of Black Country Healthcare’s Employment and Recovery provision. During that last 12 months, the service has helped 110 amount of people back into meaningful employment across the Black Country

Speaking about his journey, Elliott said:

“The IPS service has been really good and has been there when I’ve needed it. It’s been a massive part of getting me back into work. It has helped me to build myself back up from when I last left work and helped to motivate me – volunteering with the Trust in the hospital gym also helped me to build experience.”

Vocational Specialist Louise Westwood praised Elliott’s determination and commitment:

“Elliott’s enthusiasm and commitment have been inspiring. He’s shown real determination to follow his passion for fitness and has used every opportunity to build his skills and confidence. It’s been a pleasure to see him achieve his goals, and I’m sure he’ll bring that same energy to his new role and the upcoming charity boxing match.”

Elliott’s charity boxing match will raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society, supporting vital work for people affected by dementia.
