The Employment Retention Service work with individuals to support their return to work. Retention workers liaise with employers to provide in work support if individuals are struggling to cope, or leave with dignity if this is right for them.
Support is always tailored to the individual, providing the most appropriate support to meet the client’s needs and goals though wellness action plans, reasonable adjustments, phased returns, support with absence management, capabilities and much more.
One client shared how she was supported by team lead and retention worker Chelle to return to work.
“The Retention Service saved my job while I was very poorly. Michelle fought for me whilst I was unable to speak for myself.
Michelle was wonderful, so professional and unflappable. She supported me through being on the sick from work and dealt with my workplace, putting in place a plan where I could gradually return to work.
When I was really poorly she even spoke to work on my behalf and protected me from questions I couldn't handle at the time. Eventually I was well enough to return and she was with me every step of the way.
I have felt confident enough to return to work with the Wellness Action Plan that was set up by Michelle. The gradual return to work was the most helpful support given.
I would recommend to anyone going through a similar journey to mine. I did recommend Michelle to other ladies in the hospital.”
The Retention team recently welcomed new starters, increasing the team's capacity to support more individuals to retain employment in the Black Country.
