Work experience & Wellbeing workshops inspire next generation

Young people have been inspired to pursue careers in the NHS thanks to a work experience programme from the Trust, which Black Country Job Support were proud to support.

The Trust hosted a two-day classroom based programme which saw 23 young people, aged 13 to 17, take the first step in their NHS journey.

A panel of experts shared their experiences and career journey in the NHS, while the Department of Work and Pensions hosted a skills session, which took place at Black Country & Marches Institute of Technology in Dudley.

Meanwhile, educational group Medical Mavericks, held an interactive workshops for youngsters to get hands-on experience with equipment in healthcare roles, which included suturing fake skin, having a go on a keyhole surgery simulator and using an ECG machine.

Our own Employment Retention Worker, Teresa, co-facilitated the delivery of a mental health awareness workshop. Along with the Trust’s Learning and Development team, they covered both physical and mental health, including ways to spot if they or someone else is struggling, finding the right support, helping one another and where to go for further help. The interactive session gained some incredible engagement from the young people and it was great to see them get involved in the topic of their own and others’ wellbeing.

Wellbeing Session Retention

More young people in the Black Country will get a chance to attend further workshops, with further sessions taking place at throughout the year.
